An only child, Anne attended Bronx High School of Science and graduated Summa Cum Laude from City College of NY. She was extraordinary leader whose expertise ranged from overseeing multimillion software development projects to surprise birthday parties. She balanced work with a sense of mischief, sending her distracted spouse in search of mail on federal holidays and convincing him that the tropical fish at Utah’s Seabase scuba diving center were direct descendants of prehistoric aquatic life from the now-extinct Lake Bonneville. Yet of all her attributes, the one that stands above all the rest was her ability to help others.
To spare patients from the arduous task of researching metastatic breast cancer and its treatments, Anne published a book called, “The Insider’s Guide to Metastatic Breast Cancer” that has helped thousands of patients and caregivers to navigate the disease. With the intent of delivering accurate, up-to-date information to all patients irrespective of their location and ability to pay for the book, Anne provided a complimentary downloadable copy on her website which has been visited by people in more than 150 countries. Furthermore, due to her concern about the challenging side effects caused by oncology drugs, she founded the “The Patient-Centered Dosing Initiative” which was pivotal in influencing the FDA to promote oncology drug dosages that are more tolerable and less toxic for individuals being treated for cancer.
With her brilliant smile and kindness, Anne had a special way of making those around her feel especially cherished. She loved and was loved, and as a result her life was rich beyond anything she had ever envisioned.
Preceded in death by parents Bernice and Rudy Winston and in-laws George, Bella, and Doron Loeser.
Survived by cherished husband Steve, beloved parrot Pumpkin, sister-in-law Tammy, niece Michelle, nephews Aryeh and Alex, and cousins Erica Sasman and Cindy Soto.
At Anne’s request there will be no funeral. Only memories.
Graveside services will be held at Shaare Tzedek Cemetery located at 915 East 11th Avenue Salt Lake City, Utah on Tuesday October 17, 2023 at 12:30 pm.
