Our beloved father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, Antonio Sciammarella, passed away on February 18, 2011, surrounded by his loving family after a long battle with cancer.
Born on August 17, 1927 in Scalea, Italy, Tony acquired a love for fashion early in life at the hands of his godfather who was a master tailor. He became an apprentice at the age of eight, then went on to study fashion design and business in Naples, Italy. He moved to Sao Paulo, Brazil where he became a well-known designer, and met and married the love of his life, Maria Nicoletta Ulacco. Tony, his wife, and children joined The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Sao Paulo, Brazil. They came to the United States in 1974 to be sealed in the Salt Lake Temple and have resided in Utah ever since. Tony was the proprietor of several clothing companies, including Moda Italia. He had a unique flair for fashion and an unusual sense for finding the perfect-fit.
Tony dedicated his life to serving his family, friends, community, and his church. He was loved by all who knew him because of his strength of character, warmth, and Christ-like love for people. His unique personality and engaging presence made knowing Tony an unforgettable experience. He served in numerous church callings, but he particularly loved serving as an ordinance worker in the Salt Lake Temple.
