Carma Joyce Riddell Harp

Carma Joyce Riddell Harp passed away peacefully on June 1st, 2025 in Layton, Utah. Joyce was born on February 7th, 1936 and spent her 89 wonderful years spreading love, sarcasm, sass, and laughter to any and all around her.

Joyce was born in Tooele, Utah to Lionel and Carma Olsen. She wrote columns for The Bingham Bulletin Newspaper before graduating highschool and attending Utah State University. It was shortly after when she met Jack Riddell -- who she'd go on to marry in 1956 and move to Massachusetts. After spending years going back and forth on where they'd settle down, Joyce and Jack decided on the lovely San Fernando Valley of Los Angeles where they'd go on to raise 3 beautiful children: John, James, and Lori. Joyce took immense pride in her family, treasuring the countless memories they shared—whether it was sunny days at the beach, gathering around the table for Sunday dinners, or as a family cheering on the boys at their sporting events. She built a life grounded in love, surrounding her family and friends with unwavering support, warmth, and joy.

Joyce later remarried Colonel James L. Harp in 1994. Joyce and Jim shared a deep love for travel and cherished their time in beautiful, sun-soaked Coronado, along with enjoying trips with the kids and grandkids. They delighted in lively evenings out dancing at elegant local venues, riding their bikes, and spent hours on the sparkling ocean aboard their sailboat.

Joyce is survived by her loving children, [John (Julie) Riddell and Lori (David) Hendrickson], 5 grandchildren, and 10 great-grandchildren. Joyce was predeceased by her 1st and 2nd husbands [Jack Riddell and James Harp], her parents [Lionel and Carma Olsen], her brother [Wayne Olsen], and son [James Riddell]. A beautiful woman inside and out, her loving and eloquent personality will be greatly missed.

An afternoon visitation for Joyce will be held Saturday, June 21, 2025 from 12:45 PM to 1:45 PM at Wasatch Lawn Mortuary, 3401 S. Highland Drive, Millcreek, UT 84106, followed by a graveside service from 2:00 PM to 2:45 PM.
