Diane C. Herndon

Our beloved Mother, Grandmother, Grandma-Great, and Friend passed away May 18, 2015 in Salt Lake City, UT at the age of 77. Born Clarissa Diane Cranney on April 14, 1938 to Martin W. and Elizabeth Cranney in Oakley, Idaho. She was the youngest of five girls and shared a deep love and friendship with her older sisters. She attended Idaho State University where she studied teaching until she met and married her husband of 54 years, John W. “Jim” Herndon Jr. on June 20, 1958 in Oakley, Idaho. Diane and Jim moved to Salt Lake City where they raised their four children. She loved to read, host Red Hat tea parties, and cheer on the Utah Jazz. All that knew her will remember her feisty personality and nurturing manner. She is survived by her children Karen Paulsen (Chad), John W. Herndon III (Deborah), Kathy Castagno (Paul), and Tracii Dastrup (Randal) as well as twelve grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren, and close family friends Victor Aguirre and Glenda Saade. She was preceded in death by her husband Jim, parents Martin and Elizabeth, and sisters Kathlyn, Carol, Ruth and Rachel. The family would like to express appreciation to the Huntsman Cancer Institute for their exceptional kindness and care with a special thanks to Joan Collett, PA-C. A viewing will be held May 26th from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at Wasatch Lawn Mortuary 3401 Highland Drive Salt Lake City, Utah. Funeral services will be held May 27th at 11:00 am in the Cottonwood 3rd Ward Chapel at 6301 South 2300 East Holladay, Utah where friends may call one hour prior to service.
