Donelle Stott Dickey passed away with her family surrounding her at the age of 76 Sunday, May 28th, 2023 in Salt Lake City, Utah. After a surprise diagnosis of Stage 4 Metastatic Melanoma in just the past few weeks, Donelle had started to fight the cancer when she contracted Legionella.
Donelle was born September 21, 1946 in Salt Lake City, Utah. Her parents, Don Lance and Viola Stott and siblings Jerry Stott and Beth White preceded her in death. She was married to Brent Rulon Dickey from June 12, 1967 - 2012.
Donelle grew up on “Christmas Street” in the Sugarhouse area of Salt Lake County. She graduated from the University of Utah with a degree in Elementary Education and loved teaching 3rd grade until she became a mother. She moved around the country throughout her adult life living in Utah, Colorado, Arizona, Florida, California, and then back to Utah. She earned her Master's Degree in Special Education from San Jose State University and had a long career teaching Special Education students at Gilroy High School in California and Cyprus High School in Utah. She loved teaching children and had a special ability to help those who struggle with learning to find success in school and in life.
After Donelle retired she chose to serve a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints as a Senior Sister in the Dallas, Texas Mission. After her return, she soon became a Service Missionary teaching Senior Sisters via Zoom how to share the gospel before they entered the MTC in which capacity she served up to her death.
Her life centered around service. She was known for continually serving in her family, church, and school. Her bright smile, cheerful laugh and big hugs were well-known among those she knew. Introducing herself as “Grandma”, she shared her special grandma love with countless children and young adults far beyond her immediate family.
Donelle is survived by 5 of her children and their spouses; Tiffaney (Bob) Gallup, Stacey (Eric) Hutchings, Brendon (Stephanie) Dickey, Mindy Graham, and Doug (Melissa) Dickey.
