Donna M.N. Bird

Donna Marie Nielsen Bird, 86, passed away peacefully in her home on August 22, 2017. She was born on March 30, 1931 in Salt Lake City, Utah. A daughter of Waldemar Torval and Jeanette Wilson Nielsen. The sixth of seven children.

She is survived by 3 children, Sheila (Gary) Fieldsted, Kitty (Kelly) Sorensen, and Rick Bird; 8 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her loving parents, all six of her siblings, and two sons, Steven and Lonnie Bird.

Donna was full of love and compassion, a champion for the underdog. She loved telling stories of her childhood and growing up on Gunn Avenue where some of her fondest memories were made. She loved to study the written word, and spent many hours each day simply reading. She had an amazing talent with needlework, especially crochet. Many of her friends and family received her work as gifts, in love.

Donna was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ and so loved to talk of her faith. We know she is having a joyous reunion in heaven with her beloved Father, Mother, siblings and sons. Rest in peace, Mom. We are praying you home.

A graveside service will be held at Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park and Mortuary, 3401 Highland Drive, SLC, UT, on August 28, 2017 at 11:00am. In lieu of flowers, please give a donation to your favorite charity. It is what Mom would have done.
