1921~2011
Dorothy left this earth on the wing of a dove to return to her father in Heaven on January 23, 2011. Born December 1, 1921 to Edna and David Butterfield, she grew up in the South Salt Lake Area and graduated from Granite High School in 1939. She married Richard Ellis in November of 1949. Dorothy worked for Safeway, Smith’s, The American Linen, and Utah State Department of Aging. This last job is the one she enjoyed the most; for it was while there that, she worked on the Centenarian Celebration given each year by the state. She loved and admired these individuals for their knowledge and strength. For many years, she performed volunteer work delivery meals to homebound seniors. Dorothy loved to go for long walks, enjoyed reading, and spending time with family and friends. Her son Sam Ellis, of Millcreek, her daughter, Diane Kirby (James) of West Valley, and her brothers Elwin and Roy Butterfield, survives Dorothy. Twelve grandchildren and Thirty-Two great grandchildren also survive her. Her husband Richard Ellis, her son, Richard Erskine, and one grandson, Joey Erskine, preceded Dorothy in death. A viewing for Dorothy is scheduled for Thursday evening the 27th from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Wasatch Lawn Mortuary 3401 S. Highland Drive SLC, UT.
