Emma Lou Kasteler

Emma Lou Swinyard Kasteler passed away peacefully on April 3, 2025, at her Holladay home of 57 years, at the age of 87. She is survived by her children: daughter Lynda Jensen (Christian), son Jeffrey (Jodie), son Michael, Lee (Luse), daughter-in-law Lisa, and many wonderful grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Emma Lou is preceded in death by the love of her life, Rodger David Kasteler, her parents, and her children Jennifer Swinyard Kasteler and son David Roger Kasteler.

Emma Lou was born on July 9, 1937, to Ewart Ainslie Swinyard and Grace Chatterton Parkinson in Logan, Utah. She had one sibling, Richard Ewart Swinyard, who was six years younger.

Emma Lou attended the University of Utah, graduated in Early Elementary Education, and was a member of Pi Beta Phi. She always loved children and served in a variety of ways, whether it was teaching Kindergarten or Primary. She touched the hearts of countless children over 45 years.

Emma Lou and Rodger met in Junior High. Their friendship lasted a lifetime. Shortly after Rodgers return from serving a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, they were married in the Salt Lake Temple on June 19, 1959. Rodger and Emma Lou opened their hearts and home to six wonderful children: Jennifer, David, Lynda, Jeffrey, Michael "Mika" Lee. Emma Lou's proudest moments came from being a mother, including the challenges that came with raising energetic Jeffrey. She led by example her whole life. Her ability to love as the Savior did allow all around her to see what was truly important in her life.

Emma Lou will always be remembered for her appreciation for children, soft heart, and service to others.

The viewing will be held on April 14, 2025, from 5-7 pm at the LDS Chapel, 4601 South Chapel Street (2565 East), Holladay, Utah 84117. On April 15, there will be an additional viewing from 10-10:45 am, followed by the memorial service from 11-12.
