Emma Jean Wilson Quist, beloved mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin, and friend, went home to reunite with her dearest "Ev" on Friday, January 1, 2021. She was 81. She passed away while on hospice under excellent care at Timpanogos Regional Hospital in Orem, Utah, after developing pneumonia consistent with Covid-19.
Emma, or Jeanne as she was often called, was born in Bonners Ferry, Idaho, on May 31, 1939, to Emrick Severin and Bertha Vesta Wilson. Her children can recall with fondness hearing stories of her childhood adventures – many of which included her dear childhood friend and "blood sister" Marilyn. They maintained their sisterhood for 71 years. Jeanne attended Kootenai High School, where she was the first in her family to graduate.
Jeanne married young and bore the first three of her beloved children. The marriage soon ended in divorce. During this time, she was introduced to missionaries of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and upon gaining a testimony of the restored gospel, she chose to be baptized into the church. Not long after, Ed Quist caught view of this stunning redhead at church. The rest is history. They married and were later sealed for time and all eternity in the Cardston Alberta Temple. Ed adopted her precious babies as his own, and together they added nine more children to the family—twelve in all—eight boys and four girls.
Jeanne devoted her life to the care and nurture of her twelve children, and that love extended to sons and daughters-in-law. She had no "in-laws," just more sons and daughters. If there was anything more beautiful than her relationships with her children, it was those relationships with her grandchildren. She shared a bond with each one and was not only a grandma but also a very dear friend.
Though her family was plenty large – her circle of love knew no bounds. She freely extended that love with open arms to many friends that she met and loved dearly and maintained these wonderful friendships over the years. The loss is immense, and she will be missed terribly.
Jeanne is survived by ten of her twelve children: James (Anna-Marie), David (Kendra), Joseph (Shauna), Wilson (Ry), Samuel (Sarah), Beth (Jared) Southwick, Emilee (Claudia Pinola), Thaddeus (Buffie), Erica (Adam) Porter, and Thomas (Angee). She leaves behind a legacy of 46 grandchildren and 37 great-grandchildren. Several siblings-in-law, nieces and nephews, and dear cousins also grieve her passing. She is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Edward Vaughn Quist, daughter, Rebecca, son, Stephen, two grandchildren: Piper and Ethan, parents, Emrick Severin and Bertha Vesta Robinson Wilson, siblings, Mary (Darrell) Perry, Francis (Grace) Ertz, Geneva (Kenneth) Hamrick, Helen (Eugene) Harris, Anne (Charles) Juda, Ernest (Ruth) Ertz, and Vesta (Clifford) Reynolds
