Born on May 15, 1973, Eric was the first-born child of Paul Eugene and Toni Miller Wiseman. He was a ray of sunshine with a happy disposition and beautiful smile. Although facing health challenges beginning in his late teens, his affable disposition and willingness to smile remained with him throughout his life. Everyone loved Eric.
Eric was a good listener but could also converse with anyone about anything. He loved to learn and was always reading and studying on his own, delving deeper into many diverse and varied subjects. He could discuss quantum physics and articles appearing in Popular Mechanics and knew the latest about Artificial Intelligence and computer technology. He loved music of all genres from Lyle Lovett and His Large Band to the Beatles, jazz, classical and Disney soundtracks. He had a quick–witted sense of humor and loved to tell jokes but could also share his thoughts about the latest in politics and world events. And then he could change directions and discuss his latest LEGO creation or video game conquest. He was interesting and well-read, fun and funny.
Eric began school at Truman Elementary and later attended Upland Terrace Elementary, Wasatch Junior High and graduated from Skyline High. He played trumpet in the Skyline High Jazz Band and was a member of the Skyline High Golf Team. He had a beautiful long drive off the tee, taught to him by his Grandpa Miller. Golfing was always one of his favorite things to do. He was also an Eagle Scout.
He graduated from the University of Utah and later went on to study for his Master of Social Work at the University of Phoenix.
He was the best older brother to his sisters Rebecca and Megan and to his brother Dan. He was kooky and crazy and was always willing to spend time with them. He loved his niece Livy and nephews Owen, Wyatt, and Theo, and they adored him. He was great with kids! They loved to spend time with him because he was so funny, and because he would share silly jokes and make funny faces with them.
Eric married Wendy Kettle and although they later divorced, they remained best friends until her death. Eric and Wendy were known to do kooky and crazy things, especially at Halloween. They always appeared on the doorstep in costumes to Trick or Treat, Eric often dressed in a nun costume and Wendy in a weird horror outfit. They loved going to the Fashion Place Mall and while there, they made sure they ate their favorite treat... Hot Dog on a Stick with fresh-squeezed lemonade. Eric loved his corn dogs! And Fanta grape soda! But most of all, he loved his Peeps!
For many years, Eric was employed at UNI (University of Utah Neuropsychiatric Institute) as a psych tech. He was great at his job because of his ability to empathize with his patients. He was loved and respected for his understanding and accepting personality and ability to help those around him feel comfortable.
Eric was most recently employed by M & M Tools and Machinery. He loved his job and the people he worked with. They became his second family and also his good friends. He loved the challenge of web technology. If he couldn’t figure something out, he studied and tried various approaches until he arrived at a solution that worked. He was a problem solver.
Eric was preceded in death by his beloved sister, Becky, and by his former wife, Wendy, and by his grandparents.
He is survived by his parents, Paul and Toni, his brother Dan and sister Megan. Also survived by his brother-in-law Josh Quertinmont, niece Livy Quertinmont, nephews Owen and Wyatt Quertinmont and nephew Theo Wiseman. He was a beloved cousin to many who will all miss his funny sense of humor and spirit of fun and adventure. He will also be missed by many aunts, uncles, and friends who loved him.
There will be a visitation on Thursday, August 22, 2024, at Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park, 3401 Highland Drive, from 10:30 a.m. to Noon, followed by the graveside service at Noon.
Eric’s favorite (and probably only) outfit of late was a T-shirt and a hoodie. Please feel free to wear your favorite T-shirt or YOUR favorite outfit. Eric would love it!
