With a heart as wide as the open road and a spirit that shone as bright as her holiday lights, Gayle E. Edmunds, Drake, Garrett, Brotherson passed peacefully on December 11, 2025, in Mesquite, Nevada, at the age of 91.
Born February 18, 1934, in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Lilian and George Carlson, Gayle grew up surrounded by family, faith, and an early sense of adventure. She attended South High School and later graduated from Granite High in 1977.
She married Harry Lee Garrett on September 5, 1956, and together they built a rich family legacy rooted in love and laughter. After Harry’s passing, Gayle found companionship once again, marrying Floyd Brotherson on November 28, 2008.
Harry and Floyd were best friends as teenagers, bound by a friendship that would quietly shape the course of their lives. When Floyd married Kay and Gayle married Harry, their bond only deepened — two couples intertwined through years of laughter, camping trips, shared adventures, and lifelong memories. They raised their families side by side, building a community of friendship that endured through every season. In the end, it was that same enduring connection that brought Floyd and Gayle’s companionship back together, completing a beautiful, full-circle story of love, friendship, and faith.
Gayle was a woman who blended skill with spirit. A talented seamstress and creative homemaker, she also thrived in her professional life as a technician for Xerox, where her meticulous nature and dependable work ethic earned her deep respect.
A devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Gayle lived her beliefs through service and kindness. She served a faithful mission in Georgia from 2004 to 2006, and upon her return was sealed to Harry Lee Garrett in January 2007—a moment she cherished deeply.
Gayle’s world was as vast as the maps she loved. Known affectionately as a “walking Rand McNally,” she could recall nearly every road and scenic route across America. From Lake Powell summers to Beaver deer hunts, she reveled in the great outdoors and found joy in every journey. Whether traveling cross-country with a trailer in tow or discovering new corners of the world, she approached every mile with wonder and gratitude. She dreamed of living on the beach.
Her creativity filled every season—holiday baking, food preservation, sewing, and her legendary Christmas decorations brought magic to all who knew her. Gayle also held a lifelong appreciation for music, theater, and the arts, and delighted in sharing those passions with her family.
Gayle is survived by her beloved children, Linda Moore (Allan), Rick Garrett (Debby), Joni Garrett, and Susan Terrell (Michael); 19 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren, and 6 great-great-grandchildren, Brotherson Family children, William Brotherson (Glenda), Cyndi Brotherson, Debra Harper, Lynn Brotherson (Neta); 11 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, and 6 great-great-grandchildren—a testament to a legacy of love that spans generations.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Lilian and George Carlson; husbands, Harry Garrett and Floyd Brotherson; siblings, Richard and Kenneth Edmunds; children, Patty Drake, Judy Hansen (Danny), Debra Weber (Stephen), and Ron Garrett; grandson, Brian Hansen; and Stepson, Danny Brotherson.
