George Milton Sullivan, age 91, passed away from natural causes on October 7, 2012 surrounded by his three children and their families. He was born September 11, 1921 in Salt Lake City to George and Josephine Sullivan. He married Buffie Sander on December 23, 1947. They had almost fifty years together before her passing in 1997. They lived in Seattle, Washington briefly, then spent the rest of their lives in Salt Lake City, where they were active in local and national politics. This was the beginning of his lifelong interest in politics and the economy. He was educated at East High School and the University of Utah, graduating in 1943 in Business Administration. He served in the South Pacific in the U.S. Army during World War II and was recalled to active duty during the Korean War. He was affiliated with IBM, with Shell Oil in Seattle, and finally with the Marketing Dept. of Phillips Petroleum until his retirement in March of 1985 after thirty years with Phillips. He religiously followed his Phillips stock and the Dow throughout his life. He is survived by his daughter, Shannon (James) Andersen, Michael (Pam) Sullivan, and G. Steven (Lisa) Sullivan, all of Salt Lake City. His legacy includes six grandchildren: April, Ryan, Jill, Jimmy, Claire, and Amy and seven great grandchildren. He spent his last ten years at Cottonwood Creek, where he will be remembered for the gentle, kind man that he always was. We will all miss our Sunday afternoon drives in his new car, where we would discuss politics and look forward to the new model cars coming out each year! Bon voyage, Dad and Grandpa! Graveside services will be held at Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park, 3401 South Highland Drive, Salt Lake City, on Wednesday, October 10th 2012 at 2:00 p.m.
