Our sweet husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, Gerald Joseph Heiner, passed away on November 7, 2016. His last days were spent in the company of his family that he loved with all his heart.
Jerry was born July 22, 1934 in Salt Lake City, UT to Joseph Parley and Edith Greenwall Heiner. He attended Granite High School and shortly after met the love of his life, Norma Aldrich. Jerry and Norma had a true love story and they were married almost 63 years. Jerry cherished Norma and always took good care of her. Together they raised five sons in Cottonwood Heights. Jerry loved the outdoors and taught his boys to fish, hunt, and play together. He spent many years coaching his sons’ baseball teams. Jerry spent his life in the service of his family.
Jerry enjoyed anywhere he could go with Norma. They loved to travel and take road trips together, including driving to Arizona to watch Spring Training Baseball games and visiting San Francisco. They had season tickets to the Golden Eagles Hockey for many years.
Eighteen years ago, Jerry and Norma moved to St. George and built their dream home together. They loved living in the warm weather. Jerry is probably best known for his immaculate yards. He could make anything grow. He loved to garden and could be found almost every day in the yard, trimming and pruning and making things beautiful. He passed that talent on to his sons.
Jerry was a lifelong member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and served in many callings, including Bishopric and Stake High Counselor.
Jerry is survived by his loving wife, Norma, five sons and wives, Steve (Gail), Mike (Cindy), Greg (Mary), Todd (Kenya) and Tracy (Tracie), his sister Audrey, 16 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren. Preceded in death by parents, sisters Donna and Lorraine and brother, Don.
A visitation will be held at the Wasatch Lawn Mortuary on Saturday, November 12, 2016 from 1:00 – 1:45 pm followed by a service at 2:00 pm. Interment will take place at Wasatch Lawn Cemetery 3401 South Highland Drive, Salt Lake City. “See ya at 2, Dad."
