Gordon proudly served his country in the United States Air Force, including time stationed in Okinawa, Japan. During his service, while serving at Francis E. Warren Air Force Base in Wyoming, he met his sweetheart and the love of his life, Lucille, at church. Their love story continued as they were married on August, 26, 1954, in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. While in Okinawa, he also served as president of the Naha, Okinawa LDS group, reflecting his deep faith and commitment to serving others. His life was marked by quiet strength, leadership, and devotion to both his country and his beliefs.
Gordon was raised in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and remained an active and devoted member throughout his entire life, serving faithfully in many different callings. His testimony and dedication to his faith were a guiding force in how he lived, served, and loved those around him.
Gordon loved his life’s work and had a long and accomplished career with IBM, where he specialized in scientific and engineering computers. He eventually became a field manager before choosing to retire early. Never one to slow down, he began a second career as an upscale home builder. As a general contractor, he worked alongside his son David, building beautiful homes in both Salt Lake and St. George until he retired for the second time. His strong work ethic, intelligence, and pride in craftsmanship were evident in everything he did.
Beyond his professional life, Gordon had a deep love for the outdoors and the hobbies that brought him joy and connection with his family. He enjoyed motor biking, snowmobiling, shooting, and spending time in nature–especially at the beautiful family cabin he built so that he and his loved ones could share in these experiences together. He also had a passion for photography, woodworking, computers, and electronics, and always seemed to have a project underway. His curiosity, creativity, and drive to build and fix things were a constant throughout his life.
He lived a life full of meaningful accomplishments–too many to fully capture in words–but those who knew him will remember him most for his kindness, integrity, and the love he so freely gave.
Gordon was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Lucille Millward; his daughter, Lori; his mother, Leola Billings; his father, Mark Cornaby; and six of his eight siblings. He is survived by his children, Karen Hartle, Krisa, David, and Lisa (Brent) Greaves; ten grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren, all of whom carry forward his legacy of love and strength.
To his family, Gordon was everything–a devoted father, a steady guiding light, and a constant source of love and support. To his children, he was not only a father, but an idol and a best friend who stood by through every moment of life with unwavering love.
Gordon is now reunited with the love of his life, Lucille. Their bond was enduring, and there is comfort in knowing they are together again.
Though he is no longer physically with us, his presence will continue to be felt in the lives he touched. His family finds peace in knowing he is free from pain, watching over them, and hearing their prayers.
Funeral services will be held at Wasatch Lawn Memorial in Salt Lake City, Utah, on Thursday, April 30, 2026.
A viewing will be held at 1:00 p.m., followed by the service at 2:00 p.m.
He will be deeply missed and forever remembered and loved.
