Beloved husband, father, and grandfather, Gwyn Dean Davidson, age 80, passed away peacefully at home in South Jordan, Utah, on Friday, June 28, 2013, after a prolonged illness. Gwyn was born on June 10, 1933, in Pocatello, Idaho, to Eskil Leander Davidson and Mary Newton Davidson.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 56 years, Irene; his four boys and their wives, Marcel (Janet Goates), Rob (Sherrie Durkin), Chris (Michelle Jensen), and Jared (Carrie Clements); 17 grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and his sister, Elmary Davidson. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, and a sister.
Gwyn served in the Spanish-American LDS Mission from 1953 to 1956. He married Irene Schoen on July 5, 1957, in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple. After graduating from BYU in 1958, he worked as an LDS seminary teacher until 1961, when he became involved with the trucking business, eventually building his own company, Pack Transport, Inc. He ran "Pack" according to a strict and unfailing code of personal and business ethics. Gwyn was an avid student of the scriptures and LDS Church and Utah history. He led many tours of pioneer and LDS Church History sites, finding great joy and lasting friendships in those activities. He also enjoyed mountaineering with his sons in the Wasatch and Grand Teton mountains.
Gwyn was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, serving in many callings throughout his life. He was also a tender and devoted father and grandfather who delighted in his family. He loved entertaining his grandchildren with unique original stories. In Gwyn's last few years, he loved going on road trips to historical sites with his boys, about which he could recount every detail.
Gwyn's family wishes to express their gratitude to his hospice caregivers, especially Rolando and Whitney. A viewing will be held on Friday, July 5, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Wasatch Lawn Mortuary, 3401 South Highland Drive.
