JaNae Cheney Nicholes of Round Rock, Texas, passed away in Salt Lake City surrounded by her family on February 17, 2023 at the age of 86. JaNae was born December 12, 1936 in Brigham City, Utah, to Orval Owen Cheney and LaNore Erma Christiansen Cheney. She married her high school sweetheart, Phillip Blaine Nicholes, on February 23, 1957.
JaNae was a devout member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many church callings throughout her life. She had a strong testimony of Jesus Christ, and studied the scriptures every day. She loved to share what she learned with others, which was easy because she made friends everywhere she went. JaNae always found ways to serve others in any way she could. JaNae was a loyal Visiting Teacher and friend. She was a homemaker, seamstress, talented artist, and enjoyed her time learning at Darrell Sisemore Cosmetology School. Her talents blessed many, especially her family.
“Nae”, as her grandkids lovingly called her, spent her life caring for her family. She found joy in spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and could often be found making her famous “kiss cookies” with them. She enjoyed playing games, especially card games, and watching Ray Stevens’ music videos and Hallmark movies. JaNae never ever ran out of stories to tell, and could spend hours talking on the phone or in person with friends and family. She always gave the best hugs and kisses.
JaNae is preceded in death by her husband Phil and her daughter Penny. She is survived by her children: Cindy (Bob), Shari (Doug), Christi (Adam), granddaughter Amy (Jonah) whom she raised, her siblings Brent, Linda, Darrell, Kent, sister in-law Lorna Jean, many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
We love and miss you so much already Nae.
