Jay Russell Nielson

Jay Russell Nielson, 37, passed away Aug. 8, 2014 in West Valley City, Utah. He was born Aug. 20, 1976 in Salt Lake City, Utah to James Russell Nielson and Harriet R. Nielson McDonald. He graduated from Highland High School and attended the College of Eastern Utah. Jay had three loves in life: his motorcycle, his dog and music. He lived a simple life and was always ready for the next fishing or camping trip, motorcycle ride or music concert. Some of his favorites include the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally and the San Rafael Swell. When he made friends they were friends for life, and he had many. He worked hard to play hard and was known for his work ethic, strength and attention to detail.

Jay is survived by his mother and step-father, Harriet R. and Dell V. McDonald; brother, Eric C. Nielson, and sister, Colleen R. Nielson; aunt, Ruth Gardner; two nieces, two nephews and Kyia, his beloved four-legged companion. Preceded in death by his father, James R. Nielson; brother, David J. Nielson; and grandparents.

Memorial services will be Saturday, Aug. 16, 2014 at 11am at Wasatch Lawn Mortuary (3401 S. Highland Dr.) with a gathering one hour prior. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to Best Friends Animal Sanctuary or National Parks Conservation Association. Please wear your leathers and bring your bike if you have them, otherwise wear your casual clothes.
