Born November 19, 1985 on a beautiful snowy morning to Douglas and Gayle Ottosen Engh. Kai Richard Engh died suddenly and peacefully in his sleep. Kai was a loving and thoughtful son and a friend to all. He made friends easily and was always surrounded by them. Kai graduated from Olympus High School in 2004, where he played basketball and ran track. Kai was a gifted basketball player and spent many hours playing with his friends, brothers and dad. Kai attended Salt Lake Community College, and was an avid fan of the U of U football team. In addition to a love for basketball he was an avid golfer with a beautiful swing and a solid putt and often found on the links with his brother Kevin and friends. His infectious smile and warm personal friendliness earned him the nick name of “Kai Guy”. Kai greatly enjoyed camping and hunting with his father, brothers, and friends and he especially loved the annual fishing trips to the Beaverhead River near Dillon, Montana. Kai was a clever fisherman and usually got the “big one” that didn’t get away.
Kai grew up in the East Millcreek area of Salt Lake County and was an Elder in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Kai worked for Delta Airlines in their call center in Salt Lake City. He greatly enjoyed his work and was selected by Delta to go the Philippines and help set up a new call center. He performed so well, Delta asked him to return, which he was extremely excited to do. He was in the midst of making final preparations to return when he unexpectedly passed away. Kai was at the top of his game and lived life to the fullest. His life was full and he had a bright future ahead of him.
Kai leaves behind his parents and sisters: Kristina Roberts, Curt (Loveland, CO), Karolyn Engh, Greg Nielsen (Sandy, UT): Karina Baer, Mat (Timber Lakes, UT); brothers: Kurt (SLC), Kevin, Jenn Pond (SLC); Nephews: Ethan and Zach Roberts, Steven Carlson, Anton Nielsen; Nieces: Grace Carlson and Hannah Baer.
Kai was named after two loving uncles Richard Engh and Richard Ottosen.
