Karen Elaine Lund Jardine made a peaceful departure from this life at 79, on February 28, 2026, after navigating lifelong complications from childhood Polio and Post Polio Syndrome with determination, strength, courage, and humor. Karen was born July 18, 1946, to Pearl Annie (Pearson) and Elden Alexander Lund. She graduated from Highland High School, attended LDS Business College, and landed a secretarial position she really enjoyed. In 1965, she married Evan Jardine, the love of her life—and love at first sight—just six months after a chance meeting at the Salt Lake City Cemetery. They enjoyed 59 wonderful years together. She wanted children and a family more than anything in life and loved being a Mom and Grammy/Gram. She was very devoted to her husband, children, and big extended family and was always there to listen, provide wisdom, and help in any way she could. She was known to stay up until 4 am playing online video games with her grandchildren. Her second love was sewing, and she could make anything. She enjoyed custom sewing and alterations for clients from home and her tailor position with Sears.
Karen was always creating--cards, crafts, cardboard houses and many other fun things with her grandchildren. Her silly side loved to make up puns and songs. She was full of new ideas ahead of her time, creating re-usable grocery bags and shopping lists before they became popular. She came up with many interesting tools to improve life and to adapt to her continued physical decline from Polio. She brought our family together for big holiday gatherings, creating fun memories with music and lots of delicious food. While stuck in a bed for two years, she continued to bring our family together and make a positive difference in all our lives. She was a loving, caring, compassionate, thoughtful, dedicated and fun wife, sister, mom, Grammy/Gram, aunt, and friend. We always knew we were loved. She taught us to be there for each other and to be strong and persevere through challenges. “It could always be worse,” she would say, “not to diminish our own problems.” She proved we can make a positive difference from any situation we find ourselves in.
Karen is survived by two children, Mitchell (Alesha) Jardine and Michelle Jardine (Kevin Megown); six grandchildren, Hayden, Greysen, Ashley, Samantha, Calvin, and Jared; brothers Ken (Kim) Lund and Dale (Patty) Lund; sisters-in-law Jayme Wittke, Tami Gilligan and Tesa Kowalski; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Evan Jardine, parents, Pearl and Elden Lund; mother and father-in-law Judy and Harold Jardine; brothers Jerry (Naomi) Lund, and Budd Lund, Wade Jardine; sister Allyson Jardine; and several nephews. In lieu of services, we hope those who knew Karen will enjoy something she loved in her honor.
The family is grateful to the many amazing caregivers at Meadow Peak Assisted Living, Independence Home and Hospice, and JMI Caregiving for the loving care she received. Thank you also to the sweet staff of West Jordan Dairy Queen for making many custom orange freezes that made her day.
Karen, Mom, Grammy/Gram - We are so grateful for the life and time we had with you here. We are so happy you are free from that bed and reunited with Evan and your family and friends on the other side. You were always—and still are—such an inspiration for us. We love you so much and will miss you for the rest of our lives.
