Kathleen Cannon Pinnock passed away peacefully at home on September 23, 2024. Kathleen had been visited, called and comforted by extended family, friends, her children, siblings and each of her 14 grandchildren--including those living away and serving missions for the church. Pure joy for her heart. She was 81 years old.
Kathleen was born in Salt Lake City, Utah on August 4, 1943. She was the third of four children, and only daughter of Thomas Quentin and Katherine Bowman Cannon.
She attended boarding school in Switzerland before graduating from Frankfurt American High School in Germany, where her parents were serving as Mission Leaders for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She later went on to attend the University of Utah.
She married the love of her life, Roger Boden Pinnock on August 26, 1965 in the Salt Lake Temple, whom she has been joyfully looking forward to reuniting with since his passing 17 years ago. Together they raised 3 children.
Kathleen was a natural leader and offered her talents to the community by serving as PTA President at 3 schools, regularly organizing neighborhood gatherings and preparing meals for struggling friends and family.
Her home was open to all and was party central for her children and their friends. Her grandchildren loved her “Cousin Sleepovers” and proudly affirm that no one can make a breakfast feast like Granny! Everyone who walked through her door was fed, hugged and peppered with questions—then applauded for their effort.
Kathleen was a devout member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She had unshakable faith in God and His Plan of Salvation. She lived her testimony of Jesus Christ by living as He would, loving and serving everyone, both within and outside the church.
She enjoyed each chance to serve, but particularly loved being a part of Lambda Delta Sigma church sororities where she was an advisor to the students at the University of Utah. She loved each and every girl she served and maintained lifetime connections with many. She later served on the Regional and then National Board for Lambda Delta Sigma.
The Temple was a favorite place for Kathleen, where she served for 15+ years as an ordinance worker and in the Sealing office. She was always quick to bear her testimony of temple covenants and the joy of eternal life with God and family.
A few of Kathleen’s beautiful traits include: bringing people together, loving everyone actively and fiercely, celebrating everything (holidays, people, events…), showing up for her people, straight-talking and so much more.
Her grandkids say: Granny even made errands fun with a stop at Sodalicious every time. Granny wasn’t afraid to tell it like it is, but its because she loved me so much. Granny was happily competitive—every game we played was Granny’s rules. Granny LOVES the Temple.
She will be our fierce and fabulous guardian angel.
Kathleen is preceded in death by her husband and eternal companion, Roger.
Kathleen is survived by her children, Roger B. (Stacey), Kristina (Roger) Brockbank, Katie (Erik) Olson; 14 grandchildren, Marissa, Sam, Jared, Tyler (Syd), Christian, Maggie, Josh (Kam), Jacob (Larissa), Alli, Thomas, Lucy, Ellie, Rich, Audrey; great-grandchildren, Boden and Elsie; and her 3 brothers, Tom (Gayle) Cannon, Rich (Judy) Cannon, Jeff (Janet) Cannon.
Funeral services will be held 1:00 pm, Saturday, September 28, 2024 at the Salt Lake Olympus Stake Center, 2675 East 4430 South.
Friends and family may visit at the church that morning from 11:30 to 12:45, prior to the services.
Interment will be at Memorial Holladay Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the Humanitarian Fund or Missionary Fund for the The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Please share your memories of Kathleen to be put in a Memory Book for her grandchildren.
