Kim was born on February 1st, 1961 in Ogden, Utah to Don and Virginia Widdison. She was the youngest of six children. Raised on the family dairy farm, in Hooper, Utah, she learned life lessons that would stick with her throughout her journey. She was a graduate of Roy High School and seminary; she excelled at playing oboe in the band. She enjoyed sports and played in church and city leagues.
Kim, above all things, had a deep love for the gospel of Jesus Christ. This would lead her to serve a full-time mission in Sapporo, Japan for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (’83-’84). After serving, she would return to her education attending Weber State College. It was there she met her eternal companion, Benjamin Shaffer. They were sealed in the Salt Lake City Temple on August 9th, 1985. In addition to being sweethearts, they are best friends and enjoy life together.
All that knew Kim knew she was full of love and caring. She desired to help anyone in need, she was quick to observe and pitch in, doing what was needed. She loved to sew, and many were touched by her loving projects. She loved even more teaching her grandchildren how to sew. Many had the chance to have her “famous” homemade bread and they looked forward to that gift, a token of her love!
Kim served in many church organizations; serving in the nursery and as a temple ordinance worker were her favorites. She is one who has always known her Father in Heaven and her precious Savior, and They have known her. She is a “certain” woman of great faith and humility who was always about doing good, striving to live a life in the pattern of her Savior. Her life was filled with miracles and gratitude. She loved to share her testimony of Jesus Christ and how He carried her through the roughest spots in her mortal journey.
Kim will be deeply missed by her husband, Ben Shaffer. She is survived by their three children, Dan (Stephanie), Camilla, and Luke (Rachael), their nine grandchildren, Maggie, Roxie, Milo, Daphne, Brielle, Rudi, Eli, Yogi, and Everett, and her five siblings, Ginnie Boyle, Laura Sawyer, Barbara (David) Johnson, Jeff (Laurel) Widdison and Sue (Doug) King. She was preceded in the death by her parents Don and Virginia.
