

Lloyd Harold Nelsen, age 91, passed away December 3, 2014 of causes incident to age. Lloyd was born July 24, 1923 as the second child to George Leroy Nelsen and Mildred Charlotte Atkinson. He took great pride in giving the state of Utah the day off to celebrate his birthday. Dad grew up in Murray and had many fun adventures in the area. Lloyd served his country in the Navy during WWII. He was a Radar Operator and served in New Guinea. On December 28, 1947 he married his girl Mary Emily Doran. They eventually moved to Canyon Rim where they raised three children. Dad attended the U and earned a Master’s degree in Social Work. He worked in Salt Lake County Child Welfare, the State of Utah Division of Family Services and retired from the State Division of Aging. In these departments he held various positions of leadership. He was also a member of the founding board of Beehive Credit Union. Lloyd was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He held many positions in the church and served a mission with Mom in Romania in 1992. Dad loved to play golf. He and Mom spent many evenings, Saturdays and vacations on the course. Lloyd was a true Utah Man. He would stay to the end of any Utah contest, win or lose. Dad is preceded in death by his parents, wife Mary, son Kelly and brothers Leroy and Earl. Lloyd spent the last 18 months of his life with new friends at Olympus Ranch Independent living. Survivors: Daughter-in-law Cheryl Nelsen, daughter Kay (Casey) Stander, son Scott (Lizabeth) Nelsen, 8 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren, siblings Alvin (Carol) McBride and Charlene McBride Sanders, nieces and nephews. Services will be held at Wasatch Lawn Mortuary on Tuesday, December 9, 2014 at 11:00 am. A visitation will be held Monday from 6 - 8 pm at the Mortuary and 1 hour before services. Interment at Wasatch Lawn.
