Lois H Morrell

Lois D Hoff Morrell Zufall passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 23, 2017 in Apple Valley, CA. She was born July 15, 1929 in Montpelier, ID to Henry Herman Hoff, Jr and Ivy Adeline Dalrymple, the baby sister of three older brothers, Grant, Dean and Wayne Hoff. Lois loved growing up in Bear Lake country until middle school when her family moved to Salt Lake City, UT where she attended Bryant Jr. High School. While attending East High School, she met her sweetheart, Grant Blackhurst Morrell, five years her senior. After her high school graduation and two years at the University of Utah, they were married on June 15, 1950. He had waited five years for her to grow up.

They had four children: Marche (Niel) Altom, Manette (Jon) Allred, Garn (Diane) Morrell and Larry Morrell. She and Grant taught their children by word and example to work, love, and serve as they did. Lois taught piano lessons for years and was still playing for Relief Society at church every Sunday until her fall at home on September 2nd. She loved music and had a beautiful soprano voice. Lois would often sing and hum beautiful melodies as she did her housework while raising her young children. She was one of 50 voices from Utah that went to England in 1961 to join the “Singing Mothers” for the rededication of the London Temple and the dedication of the Hyde Park Chapel. She sang for many years with the Schubert Singers, the Jay Welch Choral, and the Utah Oratorio Society. She also sang the lead in Crawford Gates' production of Promised Valley and sang solos and duets all over the Salt Lake valley.

Lois worked at UTELCU (now Mountain America Credit Union) until she took courses to teach at Cardon Memorial Schools, where she taught for more than 20 years in Salt Lake City and Park City. Lois loved the Lord and served in stake and ward Primary, Relief Society and Young Women positions. The Gospel of Jesus Christ and her family were the most important things in her life. She was a dear friend and mentor to many. Grant and Lois served a mission in Charlotte, North Carolina 1993 to 1994 and enjoyed working in the Salt Lake Temple. Grant passed away May 23, 2008. Lois worked at the Jordan River Temple after Grant’s death. On December 1, 2011, she married Robert Zufall, a long-time friend who had recently lost his wife, Beth, a best friend from her youth. They spent almost six very happy years together, taking good care of each other.

Lois is survived by her husband Bob, her four children, 19 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren and one on the way, stepchildren Jan Hill, Lynette Zufall and Eric Zufall and their wonderful families, all of whom she loved dearly. She was preceded in death by her parents and three brothers.

A viewing will be held at Jenkins-Soffe Mortuary, 4760 S. State Street, on Thursday, September 28, 2017 from 6-8 pm. Services will be held at the River View Ward, 4800 S. 1365 W., in Taylorsville on Friday, September 29, 2017 at 12 noon, with a viewing from 10:00-11:30 am prior to funeral. Interment: Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Perpetual Education Fund of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.
