

Lori Janet Madson Cheney passed away on January 14, 2026 at 66 years old at Holy Cross Memorial Hospital in Davis after a two year battle with ovarian cancer. She was born on January 11, 1960 to Rex Arnold Madson and Moreen May Hall in Salt Lake City, Utah. She attended Olympus High School and graduated from there in May 1978.
She married Jack Brook Rickards in the summer of 1980 whom she later divorced. She married Daniel Cheney (deceased) on May 22, 1993. They were later sealed in the Raleigh, North Carolina Temple on November 23, 2002. She was an active member in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Lori married Scot Frew on September 9, 2021, who she later divorced but remained close friends with up to the time of her passing.
Lori received a Bachelor of Science degree from Utah State University in 1982. She took her education and career seriously and continued her learning through certifications within the IT and engineering space. Her last place of employment was with General Dynamics, where she worked as a computer software engineer. On her 66th birthday she had officially retired.
Lori is survived by her two children, Danielle Sophia Garcia, Christopher Patrick Cheney and three grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents and former husband Daniel Cheney.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Sean and Danielle Gale for the kind and diligent care they showed in taking care of Lori at their home in South Jordan during her final days on this Earth.
She had a deep love for life-long fitness and health. She had many hobbies she enjoyed including skiing, hiking, river tubing, camping, golfing and sport shooting. She enjoyed traveling with friends and family.
A funeral will be held on January 24, 2026 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints located at 4881 West Cindy Lane, South Jordan, UT. A graveside service will be held at a later date for closest friends and family.
