Margarethe "Marge" S. Christian 1918 ~ 2010 Margarethe "Marge" S. Christian died in Holladay, August 18, 2010. She was born in Offenbach, Germany on October 19, 1918. Marge married Edward Radtke in Germany. He was killed in 1941 leaving Marge a widow at 22 with a 9-month-old daughter. Marge became an interpreter after the war for the US Army and met her future husband William G. Christian. Marge and her daughter arrived in New York on one of the first "war bride" flights. Marge became a real estate agent but that didn't suit her. She always preferred to be the boss, so she became a broker and opened her own successful company MC Realty. Mom loved to dance, especially the polka. She had a strong German accent and was often teased by her family because of the way she pronounced her "v's," especially with her son-in-law's name of Erv. Marge was smart, funny, generous, honest, stubborn and bossy to the end. She requested to be cremated with no viewing, no services and absolutely no picture in her obituary. She did request a prayer for her soul at her interment site (Wasatch Lawn 11:00 a.m. August 28th) and wanted to be buried next to her granddaughter Melanie and her daughter Helen Mom was an animal lover; she had numerous dogs, cats, birds (she especially loved her canaries), hamsters, gerbils, rats, etc.. At one time she also had squirrel monkeys and a chimpanzie. They were all loved, overfed and totally undisciplined. Mom was a volunteer at the Humane Society (Volunteer of the Year 1990). She also volunteered at St. Mark's Hospital and received her 1000 hour pin. Marge is survived by her daughter Ursula (Erv) Rockwood, granddaughter Christine Hofhine and great-granddaughter Jessica M.Hofhine. She was preceded in death by her daughter Helen (2009), her granddaughter Melanie (1981) and Bill Christian (1978). Marge was very fond of Steve, Becky, Dani and Jeff Rockwood. Marge requested that "we have a party on me and drink champagne". That is what we are going to do on Wednesday August 25th at The Cottonwood Club, Terrace Room, 1780 E. Lakeside Drive, at 5:30-7:30 p.m. Friends and family please join us.
