Marie Katherine (Edman) Lacanienta

Marie returned to her Heavenly Father on Friday, January 30, 2026, surrounded by her family and loved ones. She was born on July 18, 1974, in Bogotá, Colombia. At the age of two, Marie was adopted and brought to the United States, where she joined her new family at the delight of her new brothers and sister.

Despite challenges she faced throughout her life, Marie thrived in the company of family and friends. She had a remarkable ability to connect with others and could speak to anyone as if they were a lifelong friend. Marie loved everyone, but nothing brought her greater joy than being with her daughters.

Marie held a belief in and knowledge of a loving Heavenly Father and we find peace knowing of her joyous reunion with her mother, Kay, and her younger brother, Russell, who preceded her in death, and whom she missed dearly.

Marie is deeply loved and will be greatly missed by her longtime partner, Steve; her daughters, Angelica, Whitney, and Jerhonda as well as her father Brent; her sister Tawna (John), brothers Boyd (Liz), Kevin (Sonya), Kent (Diane), Blaine (Jami); her cousins; and multiple generations of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, February 6, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at Wasatch Lawn Mortuary, 3401 S. Highland Drive, Salt Lake City, Utah. Interment to follow at Memorial Holladay Cemetery.
