Mark was born November 16, 1962, to Miles and Marian (Ridges) Romney in Salt Lake City, Utah. He graduated from Olympus High School, Utah State University and received his MBA from Westminster College.
Mark loved his kids, Morgan, Jason and Jessica and was so proud of them. He loved the outdoors, hiking, biking, and training for races. He participated in triathlons, century bike rides, and scotch tastings. He was an Eagle Scout and volunteered with the Scouts and Boys and Girls Clubs. As a father, he loved a good joke but was inclined to make bad ones.
Mark treasured his relationship with his wife Monica Smith Austen. They loved going on adventures abroad to places off the beaten track and staying in questionable youth hostels. His happy place was Iceland. Mark looked for any excuse to wear a kilt and was always willing to “have a go.”
Mark was a successful sales executive at several companies. His love of sales started early with many entrepreneurial endeavors originating in his teen bedroom. This involved manipulating his 6’5” body out of a small basement window to make a sales call. He was a natural salesman because he loved people, was quick to smile, easy to laugh, and accepting of all. He made friends easily, never forgot a name or face and never passed up a chance to help others.
Mark is survived by his wife Monica, his children, his father and his siblings Luanne, Carole, Scott, and Susan. He will be missed by uncles, aunts, cousins and Monica’s family. He is preceded in death by his daughter Paige and mother Marian.
