

Mary Kathryn Vanderkooi Wood, age 77, passed away at home in Salt Lake City, Utah on January 26, 2014, joining her departed loved ones after an extended illness. She was born February 11, 1936 in Odgen, Utah to Alma Cornelius Vanderkooi and Mary Elizabeth Green Vanderkooi. She attended Weber High School, Salt Lake Community College and Weber State University before marrying Charles Leonard Wood on March 11, 1954 in Salt Lake City, Utah. She was a devoted member of the First Presbyterian Church of Salt Lake City, Martha Chapter #7 OES, Midvale, Utah and lifelong member of Fraternal Order of Eagles #3285 West Valley, Utah. She spent her life providing care for others, especially our Veterans as an RN at VAMC-SLC, Utah. During her spare time she loved to crochet, do needle works and play her piano.
She is survived by her daughters, Taffy Lee Kosierowski (Raymond)-Midvale, Utah, Mary Kay Broberg (Michael)-Kearns, Utah, Alexis Wood Layland (Kay)-Dillion, Montana; 11 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband, Charles L. Wood; parents, Al and Mary Vanderkooi; son, Charles A. Wood; brother, Paul Vanderkooi.
Services will be Friday, January 31, 2014 at 2pm at Wasatch Lawn Memorial Chapel. There will be a viewing one hour prior to the funeral as well as Thursday night from 6-8pm at the mortuary. Interment to follow at Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park. Following the services there will be a reception at the First Presbyterian Church (12 C Street, Salt Lake City).
