Melvin Floyd Roth

From the Greatest Generation to The Great One.

Devoted family man, sports fan, and friend, Mel Roth passed away on Thursday, April 16, 2015. Born on May 2, 1925, the youngest of seven children of George Roth and Jane Elizabeth Moench. He graduated as a varsity athlete from West High School in 1942 and immediately joined the Navy to serve his country. On January 5, 1944, he married his high school sweetheart, Lois Hash, to whom he remained married for 61 years until her passing in 2005.

To his family, he was Daddy to 3 children, Bomp to 10 grandchildren, and The Great One to 12 great-grandchildren. A birthday or performance was never missed. To his friends, he was a broad smile and a quiet chuckle, quick with a song, even if he made up the words as he went. He provided for his family as a paint contractor, and he balanced his passion for University of Utah athletics with his love of musical theater.

He is survived by all succeeding family and will be missed by all. Family accepting visitors on Monday, April 20 from 6-8pm at Wasatch Lawn. Graveside service also at Wasatch Lawn on Tuesday, April 21 at 1pm.
