Mikey was born in Salt Lake City on July 15, 1974 to Gary and Lucinda Middleton. He died from cancer on February 13, 2016, in his home, also in Salt Lake City.
He graduated with honors from Olympus High School in 1992. The following year, he attended Brigham Young University on a full-ride scholarship. He then served a two year mission in Belfast, Ireland. After his mission, Mikey left his education to take care of his father, who had Multiple Sclerosis. He worked for Marriott for 12 years and for ARUP for four. Eventually, he returned to school, graduating with a B.A. in English, summa cum laude from the University of Utah in 2012.
Mikey was an ardent reader and a fulgent writer. He also enjoyed art, films, gaming, gardening and dancing. He was a foodie. He could taste a dish in a restaurant, pick out the main ingredients, and simulate it at home. He liked to experiment with recipes, and, with the exception of the watermelon casserole, was ingenious with his combination of flavors. He loved everything Disney, and, thanks to the generosity of friends and family, was able to visit both Disneyworld and Disneyland after he was diagnosed with cancer and before he died.
Mikey is survived by his mother, Lucinda (Van) Davis; his sister, Tiffani (Ryan) Robison; his sister, LeiLoni Middleton; and his brother, Kevin Middleton. His welcoming committee on the other side included his father, Gary Middleton; his grandfather, Herbert Middleton; his grandmother, Violet Muriel (Rendell) Middleton; and his grandfather, John Sakota.
Services will be held on Friday, February 19th at Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park, located at 3401 Highland Drive. A viewing will be held from 9:00-10:45 AM, followed by the funeral service at 11:00 AM. Interment will take place immediately following the funeral service.
