Myron Louis Sorensen passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, following an extended illness, at 80 years of age, August 2, 2015. He was born in Ogden, Utah, September 3, 1934, later moved and raised in Sacramento, California. He was the eldest child of Lois Arvilla Giles and Louis Jensen Sorensen. In his early years he graduated from Brigham Young University, served a mission in the Great Lakes Mission, served in the US Army and graduated from UC Berkeley School of Law. In 1973 he married Nancy McDonald Brubaker and they were later sealed in the Salt Lake Temple. Together they raised five children, Karrie Kay and Robert Nyberg from Nancy's previous marriage and Marcie Lyn, Michael Myron (died, 1981) and Leslie Ann from their marriage. Myron worked as a partner at the law firm Kirton McConkie until he retired at age 70. He practiced real estate law and family law. His delighted especially in the many adoptions he assisted in. Myron was an avid Boy Scout member, attending a National Jamboree in 1950 at Valley Forge, becoming an Eagle Scout and serving many years at a scoutmaster and on scouting committees. Myron was a scholar with a strong interest and knowledge in LDS history, schismatic groups, and theology. He loved attending Mormon History Association conferences. His extensive library was dear to his heart. He shared his love and knowledge of church history giving fireside presentations and teaching Sunday School. He served as bishop of the Valley View Fifth Ward for over five years and served on the stake high council. Myron was a wonderful family man. He was a kind and wise husband and father. He loved traditions and always made holidays a special time: for Nancy, it was a rose for every year they were married and the bouquet grew bigger every year; Easter was our famous (to us) egg hunt; tricks and costumes were part of Halloween and there was always a new book for each person at Christmas. He loved and was loved by many. He will be missed by us all.
Myron was predeceased by his son Michael Myron (1981), he is survived by his wife, Nancy Brubaker and four children, Karrie Kay Howard (Robert) of South Jordan, Robert (Elizabeth) of Cincinnati, Ohio, Marcie Lyn Bailey (Byron) of Holliday, Leslie Ann Thackeray (Ted) of Taylorsville, siblings, Clifford G. Sorensen, DDS (Jennifer) of Huntsville, David C. Sorensen, DDS (Mikki), Carol Jean Akin of Sacramento, CA and Patricia Ann Sorensen of Medford, OR.
