Nathan “Nate” Philip Glick, 75, of West Valley City, passed away peacefully on September 5, 2025, after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born on May 25, 1950, in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Edward Henry Glick Jr. and Ruth Rose Gierke. He was the youngest of five children.
Nate met Barbara Cope and, after a meaningful courtship, they married in 1993. Together for over 32 years, they were remarkably successful at blending their families, creating a warm and loving household where he embraced his role as both father and stepfather to all four children—Jennifer, Jonathan, Nicole, and Justin.
A devoted family man, he deeply cared about his family, nature, and the environment. Generous and passionate about furthering education, Nate established education funds for each of his children and his thirteen grandchildren, ensuring that future generations would have opportunities to pursue their educational dreams. He was known for his hospitality, frequently hosting family and friends for gatherings under his covered patio, surrounded by the beautiful garden and pond he had lovingly created. Nate found great joy in fishing and camping, with Mirror Lake in Utah’s Uintah Mountains holding a special place in his heart as his favorite retreat.
He graduated from the University of Utah with a degree in Electrical Engineering. After starting his career at the Tooele Army Depot, he went on to co-found El Dorado Engineering in 1981. Nate dedicated nearly his entire career to the company, serving as a founding member and contributing significantly to its growth and success. El Dorado specializes in weapons and munitions incinerators, and he played a crucial role in creating their innovative products. As an engineer, Nate found deep satisfaction in solving complex technical challenges and creating systems that served important purposes, though he was characteristically modest about sharing details of his specialized work.
Nate is survived by his loving wife, Barbara Cope Glick; his children, Jennifer Swan (David), Jonathan Glick (Daphne), Nicole Smith (Dusty), and Justin Fazio (Rachel); thirteen cherished grandchildren; and his siblings, Vivian Glick, Ruth Elaine (Bruno) Daube, David (Kathy) Glick, and his sister-in-law, Rose Glick.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Robert Glick, his brother-in-law, Bruno Daube, and the parents of his beloved wife, Barbara, with whom he shared a special connection.
Nate will be deeply missed by all who knew him, but his legacy of love, kindness, and generosity will live on through his children and grandchildren. His commitment to education, his professional contributions to engineering innovation, and his gentle care for the environment will continue to inspire those whose lives he touched.
