Ned Duane Allred passed away peacefully on Sunday morning, August 17th, 2025, at the age of 86, surrounded by his beloved family at Saint Mark’s Hospital in Millcreek, Utah. Born on December 28th, 1938, Duane was the remarkable son of Nina Lo Leta Allred and Ned Merlin Allred.
Duane was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, LeAnn J Allred, with whom he shared a life full of adventure, laughter, and unwavering love. He was a proud and devoted father to Alecia Rogers, Alaina Wegesend, Tyler Allred, and his two favorite children, their two dachshunds Fendi and Boomer. He was a doting grandfather to six adored grandchildren. He also leaves behind two dear sisters, Lila Pringle and Susan Harris, who treasured him deeply.
A faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Duane lived a life of service, compassion, and joy. He served as an Eagle Scout, Scout Leader, and Young Men’s Leader, always leading by example with quiet strength and a gentle heart. His kindness, integrity, and humor left a lasting mark on everyone fortunate enough to know him.
Duane was born in Reno, Nevada, and later moved with his family to Salt Lake City, Utah, where he graduated from South High School. He served in the National Guard before meeting the love of his life, LeAnn. Together, they adopted three wonderful children and built a life rich with love, purpose, and unforgettable memories.
Passionate explorers, Duane and LeAnn traveled the world together, creating cherished memories in Scotland, Ireland, France, England, Africa, and beyond. Closer to home, Duane was a constant presence in the lives of his children and grandchildren, teaching music, offering wisdom, coaching little league, and always ready for a spontaneous Snelgrove Ice Cream run.
Duane’s accomplishments and talents were as varied as they were impressive. He founded Wings and Waves Art Gallery, where he merged artistry with technology to create laser engraved fly fishing and jewelry boxes. He co-founded the Wasatch Mountain Jaguar Club in 1976 with his brother-in-law and best friend, Kenneth Borg. An accomplished pilot, musician, hunter, carpenter, builder, and by his own proud admission, the best fly fisherman around—Duane embraced life with energy, curiosity, and a love for fun. He served on ski patrol, worked as a lifeguard, and even had a spread in Life Magazine for wakeboarding.
His knowledge seemed limitless, he could identify almost any gemstone, bird, plant, or fish, and he generously shared that knowledge with others. A natural teacher, he took joy in sparking curiosity and confidence in those around him.
Above all, Duane lived a life rooted in love, for his faith, his family, and the world around him. His presence brought warmth, strength, and laughter. He leaves behind a legacy of joy, service, and adventure that will continue to inspire all who knew him.
Private services will be held this week. Duane will be laid to rest at Wasatch Lawn in Millcreek, Utah.
