Neil Wheeler Oliphant was born Aug 29, 1954 in Salt Lake City to E. Wheeler Oliphant and Carole Jeanne Lake Oliphant. Neil graduated from Olympus high school - where several more Oliphant’s would graduate. Neil served an LDS mission to Birmingham, England, which he talked fondly and often about. Neil was the oldest of six boys and he loved to torment his younger brothers. They had many trips in their camper and many funny stories to share.
Neil had a fantastic sense of humor and would often tease with a sparkle in his eye. He was lovingly called “Uncle Silly” by his nieces and nephews. Neil LOVED spending time with his family. He loved weekend trips up to the family cabin in Hanna, UT, and Huck Finn Day at the Cottonwood Club. He regularly bought season tickets for the whole family to the Desert Star Theater. Neil loved the holidays - especially Halloween and Christmas. His neighbors still say he had the best house decorations in the neighborhood. He also took his family to The Forgotten Carols every Christmas.
Neil served lovingly and faithfully in all of his callings in the LDS Church, from taking the Young Single Adults to Lake Powell to playing in the nursery. He gave wholeheartedly to those he served. He adored little kids and they loved him back- maybe it was from the smarties or other candy in his pocket that he would give to them during Sacrament meetings. Neil also loved doing genealogy and had traced his family line back to the 1400’s.
Neil was very kind and generous - he had a heart of gold and would give the shirt off his back if anyone was in need. He was the first to jump in to help and the last to leave. He loved unconditionally and above all, he loved being a Grandpa.
Neil is survived by his three children. Sarah(Jerry) Ulrich, Marci(Matt) Allred and Nic(Bianka) Oliphant and their mother Melissa Whiteurs. His granddaughters Madison and Penelope. Step-granddaughters Mariah and Taleah. Sister: Karen(Brig)LeSueur. Brothers: Stan(Lori) Oliphant, Brent(Lisa) Oliphant and Doug (Sueanne)Oliphant and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents Wheeler and Carole and his brothers Arden and Blair.
