Olean Hess Manning, age 80, passed away September 2, 2010 in Salt Lake City, Utah surrounded by his family. He was born July 5, 1930 in Ogden, Utah to Murlen C. and Eleanor Hess Manning.
Hess graduated from Jordan High School in 1948 and served in the US Army from 1951 to 1953. June 1, 1955 he married his eternal sweetheart Ann Parkinson in the Salt Lake Temple. He worked most of his life as an engineering services manager.
He was active in civic and community activities. Hess served faithfully in the LDS church as a Bishop and in many other callings. He especially loved working with the youth. He and his wife Ann served a mission together at the Washington DC Temple Visitor's Center.
Hess loved camping and motorcycle riding. Most of all he enjoyed watching his children and grandchildren participate in many activities and sports.
He was a loving, kind and gentle husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. He is survived by his wife Ann; children, Cynthia Ritz, Mark (Karen), Chad (Jana), Patrice Ynchausti (Shannon); 12 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. He is also survived by a brother, Derrel Manning, and sisters, Dorothy Pedersen and Marilyn Marsh.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, September 8, 2010 at the Olympus Stake Center located at 2700 East and 4500 South. Viewing will be held on Tuesday, September 7, 2010 from 6-8 p.m. at Wasatch Lawn Mortuary, 3401 Highland Drive and from 9:45 - 10:45 a.m. prior to the services at the stake center on Wednesday. Interment will follow the services at Holladay Memorial Park.
