1936-2011
Our loving mother, grandmother and friend quietly passed away on March 23, 2011 at home surrounded by those she loved. She was born in Salt Lake City, Utah on August 4, 1936 to Arthur H. Holtman and Eva Mae Hoskins. Peggy graduated from the University of Utah with a master’s degree in Social Work. She worked briefly at the U of U hospital and later for the Juvenile Court. She married D. Scott Ellis in 1962 in the Salt Lake Temple. Later divorced.
She has a strong testimony of Jesus Christ and in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. She served diligently in her LDS ward as a Relief Society President, Primary President, Genealogy Specialist and Visiting Teacher. Peggy had many talents and abilities in church service but had a special love for the primary children and her Sunbeam class.
Her greatest calling in life was being a mother to her two children Lynn and Gary. She was our teacher, example and best friend. She never missed an opportunity to give love and support.
Truly one of her greatest joys was being with and serving her five grandchildren. They were the complete focus of her attention when they were with her. Their lives will continue to be blessed because of their time spent with her. She always made her home a sanctuary of peace, a place of fun, of nurturing and caring…a place to go and be pampered. She also loved her extended family and no one will forget her amazing theme parties and family get-together’s. She loved parties and could turn any day into a special occasion.
The family would like to express a sincere appreciation to the care givers from Home Instead, Good Shepherd and Care Source. She was provided such compassionate and selfless care in our time of need.
She is preceded in death by her father Arthur and mother Eva as well as her half-sister Dorothy and half-brothers Robert (Bob), Scott and Jack Holtman. She is survived by her half brother William (Bill) Holtman, daughter Lynn (Jay) Wood and son Gary (Teresa) Ellis and her grandchildren Lindsay and Kassie Woodbury and Tyler, Ryan and Justin Ellis. She also survived by many other close relatives and friends who were like brothers and sisters to her.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, March 28, 2011 at 12 noon at the Little Cottonwood 16th Ward located at 6350 Rodeo Lane. Friends and family may visit prior to the service from 10:30 am to 11:30 am. A viewing will be held at Wasatch Lawn Mortuary, 3401 Highland Drive on Sunday evening March 27, 2011 from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m.
