Richard Calvin Goddard, 89 passed away peacefully on March 1, 2016 of natural causes. He was born in Salt Lake City, Utah on May 22, 1926 to Ida Marie Skillicorn and Harold Grover Goddard. He married Jean (Jeannie) King on June 12, 1952 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple.
Richard grew up in Salt Lake City with one sister (Dorothy) and three brothers (Doug, Harold (Jr.) and Jack). He graduated from Granite High School in 1944. Shortly after graduating he enlisted in the army and entered World War II. As part of his military service he was sent to Germany. He arrived in Germany on May 7, 1945, the day Germany surrendered. He always joked by saying: “They knew I was coming.”
After his military services he served a full time mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in the Western States Mission. He has served faithfully in The Church ever since. His greatest service happened in the Salt Lake Temple where he served as a temple worker for over 20 years. Unfortunately, he recently had to give this up because of his failing health.
For many years he worked alongside his sweetheart at Rex Williams and Sons. Upon retiring he spent many more years at her side as she ran a Sr. Professional Golf Tournament in Park City, Utah. Just prior to Jeannie’s passing, they celebrated 50 wonderful years of marriage. They were avid golfers who found joy in spending time together, with their friends and especially with their family. They loved their children, their children’s spouses, their grandchildren and their great grandchildren. They have left a great legacy.
Richard is survived by his children, Teri (Craig) Maher, Scott (Marie), Calee (Preston) Tholen, Trent (Joy), Guy (Kim), 15 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren (with 4 on the way). He was preceded in death by his parents, all of his siblings, his wife, and a grandson. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 5, 2016 at the Fortuna Ward building, 4407 So. Fortuna Way (3600 E.). A Viewing will be held on Friday, March 4, 2016 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at the Fortuna Chapel, and on Saturday, March 5, 2016 from 10:00-10:45 a.m. prior to the service.
