Richard Lyman Schreiner

Richard Lyman Schreiner, 79, passed away of natural causes on June 21, 2011, at his home in Livonia, Michigan. He was the first of four children born to Alexander Schreiner, Salt Lake Mormon Tabernacle Organist, and Margaret Lyman Schreiner. He was born Nov. 1, 1931, in Los Angeles, CA. In 1939 his family returned permanently to live in Salt Lake City. Graduated from East High School; received a bachelor's degree in Engineering from Utah State U., Logan, UT. Married Connie Cole Sept. 1, 1953, in the Salt Lake Temple. She died Feb. 22, 1963. They had a son, Michael A. Schreiner of Salt Lake City, UT. On July 9, 1965 he married Marian Howells in the Salt Lake Temple. They had two children, Stephen H. (Marné) Schreiner of Springville, UT and Suzanne (Hart) Hintze of Payson, AZ.

Richard spent his professional career in Detroit, MI, where he was an applications engineer for Detroit Diesel, a division of General Motors. After retiring, he did consulting work in Cincinnati, OH, and then spent the past 18 years as Director of Engineering and Quality Assurance at Carlin-America (Harbormaster Marine) in Livonia, MI.

Richard was a loyal and dedicated Scouter in the Great Lakes Council (Detroit) of the Boy Scouts of America and received the Silver Beaver Award.

He is survived by his three children, 17 grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, two sisters, Gretchen (Craig) Jackson and Julianne (Steven) Johnson both of Salt Lake City, UT, and 11 nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his wife Connie, his parents, wife Marian, and brother, John Schreiner.

Funeral services will be held Mon. June 27, 2011, at 10:00 AM at Wasatch Lawn Memorial Chapel, 3401 So. Highland Dr., Salt Lake City, UT. Viewing at 9:00 AM just prior to the services. Interment at Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park. A Memorial Service will take place on June 29, 2011, in Livonia, MI.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made "in memory of Richard L. Schreiner" to the Boy Scouts of America, 1776 W. Warren Ave., Detroit, MI 48208.
