Robert Cheney, age 61, passed away peacefully on May 1, 2025, in Salt Lake City, Utah. Born on July 4, 1963, in Salt Lake City to Robert E. Cheney Sr. and Marie Jane Thurman, Robert lived a life full of faith, service, and love for family and community.
A devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Robert married the love of his life, Carol “Joy” Joyce Myrick, in the Salt Lake City Temple in 1994. Their life together was filled with shared joys, unwavering companionship, and deep spiritual commitment.
Robert dedicated over 20 years to the Salt Lake City Police Neighborhood Watch Program, where he received numerous awards and commendations for his dedication to public safety and community well-being. His contributions left a lasting impact on the city he proudly served.
Robert had cherished camping trips with friends. A spirited square dancer, he brought joy and energy wherever he went. He was known for his creativity, often gifting friends and family with handmade yarn stitchery projects, especially his coasters for every holiday. He was a generous man delivering his favorite sweet treats to those he thought needed a boost.
He was a true example of compassion and generosity. With a rare blood type vital for infants, Robert donated over 100 gallons of blood to the American Red Cross over his lifetime—an act of quiet heroism that saved countless lives.
At the time of his passing, Robert was serving as a service missionary, continuing his lifelong commitment to his faith and to helping others. He was deeply family-oriented, and his happiest moments were those spent at family get-togethers, surrounded by those he loved. He also had a special bond with the many dogs he and Joy cared for over the years, especially his loyal companion, Bella.
Robert is survived by his sister Lynetta McAllister (Dale), half-brother Larry Blanchard (Shirley), brother-in-law Kenneth L. Myrick Jr. and his wife Pat, and nephews Bryce K. Myrick and Douglas W. Myrick (Ashley). He will also be missed by his many friends, fellow church members, and the communities he served so faithfully.
