Rowland Clement Senior passed away peacefully on December 12, 2020 with his wife of 72 years by his side. He was born in Salt Lake City, Utah on February 24, 1928 to Clement Senior and Leila Rawlinson Trumbo. He grew up in Salt Lake and graduated from West High School. He enlisted in the United States Navy in 1945 and served until 1949 and is remembered as one of the great veterans of World War II. He married his sweetheart Lois Jeanne Vincent in the Salt Lake Temple on March 9, 1949. They bought a home in Rose Park where they raised their family and it is still their home today. Rowland sang with the Tabernacle Choir for five years and had a beautiful baritone voice. He used his talent throughout his life to bless others, performing together with his wife’s accompaniment on the piano. Their talents complimented one another. He worked as a draftsman for Chicago Bridge and Iron until he retired, and post-retirement at Rocky Mountain Fabrication. Rowland and Lois served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and were avid Temple attenders, doing ordinance work in over 50 different Temples. Their greatest delight was doing everything together. They loved to travel, make quilts for grandchildren, do woodworking projects and work in their garden. He was actively involved in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints for his entire life, serving as a Bishop and in various other callings. Their home had a constant revolving door of family and friends who were always welcomed with broad smiles and warm hearts. His example and influence for good will be an enduring legacy for generations.
He has four beloved brothers, Paul Senior, and Bryan, Wayne and Mark Ethington. Rowland is survived by his wife Lois, his daughters Lynne Tolman (Glen), Jayne Johnson (Greg), Mary Lois “Marn” Coles (Mike) and his son David Senior (Shelly). Together they have 24 grandchildren, 51 great grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren.
