Ruth Elisabeth Schimming Froelke left this world on December 21st, 2020 from her home in Uintah, Utah, following a valiant battle with Cancer at the age of 87. The evening was befitting for this beautiful soul as we gazed upon the Bethlehem Star!
She was born on May 5th, 1933 in Schönlanke, Posen, Prussia/Germany to Robert Hermann Schimming and Martha Elisabeth Kennert Schimming.
Ruth was a young lady during the years of World War II and grew up with two of her sisters Edith Kirsch and Waltraud Hansen. Ruth recounted many happy moments of her youth along with hardships and heartaches during those early years and yet, she prevailed with a kind caring heart and a love for life. Ruth was an exceptional seamstress-tailor by trade. A talent that she shared with many over the years.
She learned in her later years of a beautiful extension of her family that she grew to love dearly…Brita Rueckert, her daughter-Jenny and her Dahms family. She was so very grateful for their love, their family ties and their beautiful relationship.
She married Hans Erwin Frölke on August 8th, 1953 in Dortmund, Westfallen. Prussia/Germany. Sealed in the LDS Swiss Temple in 1957.
Ruth and Hans Erwin traveled to the United States by ocean liner with 3 small children in 1959. They made their way to Salt Lake City, Utah where Hans Erwin’s sister Anneliese Ernst and family were living. Ruth and family lived in the United States for a time then returned to Germany and ventured back again to the United States where they settled and became United States citizens April 1969. Hans and Ruth were blessed with 2 more children. Ruth always said she learned English from soap operas and her children.
Ruth was a wonderful wife, exceptional homemaker and mother of 5 children, had a passion for gardening and baking, built and remodeled numerous homes with her husband, worked in the Beehive House, loved to dance, active in her LDS religion and eventually went on to find her true calling in Genealogy. Ruth and Trudy Schenk compiled and published a series of eight reference books – The Wuerttemberg Emigration Index. Ruth traveled to Germany many times on quests to help others understand their genealogy. She was sought out by many due to her extensive knowledge of research and the techniques required to gather information. She also had vast knowledge and an understanding of the history of Germany/Poland. She loved her homeland and her heritage.
We celebrate the life that Ruth, Schatz, Mama, Oma, Grossmama lived so fully and are heartbroken at her passing yet, we are grateful that she is out of pain. That she can once again walk and be the free spirit that she always was. She made every day count with hard work and accomplishments. She leaves behind many loved ones who are heartbroken and yet grateful for all she meant to them in their lives. Her husband of 67 years – Hans Erwin Froelke along with her children - Wolfram Froelke (Karen), Gabriela Pirraglio (Patrick), Birgitt Murphey (Michael), Olav Froelke (Connie), Monika Finlayson (Kurt) who are blessed to have had such a shining example of courage, love, strength, optimism and devotion in their lives which they will always remember and strive to live by. Ruth has many grandchildren and great grandchildren that treasured her. They will miss her and the German heritage that she shared with them.
