The heavens gained a beautiful soul on February 2,2026 as Sølvi Marion Taylor took her last breath in Salt Lake City, Utah. Just 86 years young, she passed in her home, surrounded by her loving family after a rapid decline in health.
Sølvi was born March 6,1939 in Oslo, Norway to parents Sigurd and Aase Olsen. Her family lived in the city and spent most summers and vacations in the countryside where she enjoyed cross-country skiing, picking wildflowers and berries, and drawing. As a young adult, she ventured away from her home country to live first in the United Kingdom and then later in the United States. It was in the U.S. that she met a tall, handsome redhead, Byron W. Taylor, who would become her husband and best friend. Their 54-year marriage was buoyed up by their devotion, dedication, and generous actions of love toward one another.
She spent most of her life in Santa Monica and Culver City, CA. Sølvi was a principled and courageous woman in a time when few were. When some people in the neighborhood treated her unkindly because English was not her first language, she responded by showering them with kindness. She baked wonderful treats to share. Many met her on one of her long walks in the community, as she often recruited others to join her. Invariably, she made friends with just about all she encountered, particularly other people who had also immigrated to the U.S.
Passionate to living life to the fullest, Sølvi enjoyed birdwatching, crocheting, knitting, cooking, garage sales, and gardening. But her greatest joy was her family – she and Byron had four children. A woman of faith, she believed that families could be forever. She joined The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Norway and was committed to living her life in accordance with her beliefs. She drew on her faith during the tough times of losing her three sons, Byron W.S., Erik, and Emile and then again when her husband passed in 2017.
In 2016, Sølvi and Byron moved to Sunrise Senior Living in Holladay, Utah. Sølvi thrived in her new setting and enjoyed going out every weekend with her daughter Jeannette, creating art, going on scenic bus rides, listening to guest speakers, and making wonderful new friends. She often picked flowers to share with others at her facility. Her continued optimism even as her health declined, continued to uplift those around her.
Our dearest mother, friend, and true Viking – you will most certainly be missed but never forgotten. God be with you ‘til we meet again. Vi elsker deg!
At Sølvi’s request there will be no funeral service. In her honor, please join us by eating a piece of dark chocolate and sharing flowers with another. Interment will be at Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park in the Garden of the Roses, Millcreek, Utah.
