Mr Manookin was one of the best mentor's in my life. As a student at Olympus high school, he taught me that mistakes were learning tools and not failures. He made me want to be my best because I knew he had faith in me. I still ask myself occasionally, what would Manookin expect me to do in this situation? He was a great man and I'm very sorry for the loss to his family.

My mother, Elaine Clive Romney, was a gifted musician, who was largely responsible for my musical gifts. Just growing up in the same household where she practiced her art helped me absorb by osmosis much of what I know.
When my mother was in high school she played piano in several ensembles. In many of them Stuart Manookin was the string bass player, so they became good friends.
After high school their paths diverged. They both married and had children, but music continued to be inextricably interwoven with their lives. Stuart's son Jeff played in a band with me for a brief time.
When my father passed away and Stuart's wife did also, he and my mother became reacquainted and decided to marry, so Stuart became my stepfather and my mom became Elaine Manookin. We were delighted, as my mother was a very social person, and longed for companionship, which Stuart provided in the very best way.
He treated her so gently and tenderly, they traveled together to places they had longed to see, played for South High class reunions, and enriched each others' social lives immeasurably.
My mom passed away five years ago, leaving Stuart alone again. He grieved her passing, and helped us see her in a new light, as someone who brought joy to him and others in a multitude of ways.
Last night Jean Manookin, wife of Stuart's son Scott, called me to tell me Stuart had passed away peacefully in his sleep at age 93. His health had been frail, so it was neither unexpected nor tragic. We rejoice that he is no longer in pain and that there is music in heaven made, undoubtedly, by two very good friends.
I pay tribute to a great gentleman and friend, Stuart Manookin, who made my mother's final years on earth a joyful trip down memory lane.
Stuart's funeral will be tomorrow, Saturday the 12th, at 11 a.m. I am performing in Fillmore 4 times that day and will miss the celebration of his life. I hope this tribute will serve to express how much I love and admire him.

I had Mr. Manookin (Stu as we called him)in AV at Olympus High Schoo1. Mr Manookin was a wonderful man. My heart goes out to his family.

Stu Manookin is a man of great depth and caring.  As a student at Olympus High I had the opportunity to work with him for 2 years.  Without doubt one of my all time favorite teachers.  You knew he genuinely cared about you.

Mr. Manookin was a wonderful teacher in and outside the classroom. I had a severe appendicitis attack during his class one day - which ultimately put me in the hospital. This amazing man came to visit me in the hospital! I will never forget his kindness and thoughtfulness.

I worked with Stuart at Olympus High School. He was dedicated and professional and was a great friend to me as a new teacher at Oly.

Mr. Manookin taught me History at Central Jr. in the 50's. A truly great teacher and a true educator. All of the kids enjoyed his class.
