

Vincent Thomas Smith Loving grandfather, father and husband passed away on February 28, 2011 in his home. He was 87. Born July 26, 1923 to James B. Smith and Mary A. McGinley, he was the ninth of ten children. From the time Vincent was three he has been known by his self chosen nickname "Nickie." He attended Central Catholic High School in Pittsburgh and Stevens Henager College in Salt Lake City. He married the love of his life Eva Christiansen on February, 2 1946. Always known to his family as a rascal, after the war where he met her, he swept Eva off her feet, at the time she was engaged to another man.
Vincent served in the Air Force for two years during WWII and worked in the civilian service at Hill Air Force Base for over 30 years. After his retirement he enjoyed ticket taking at Kingsbury Hall, University Of Utah stadium and special events center.
Practicing his Catholic faith his whole life, he enjoyed being an Usher at the St Ambrose Church near his home, until some health challenges in the last few months.
He loved his wife, son, daughters, grand children and daughter in law. Vincent enjoyed dozens of good friends, gambling, golf, and travel. A lifelong avid fan, he always cheered for his favorite team the Pittsburgh Steelers.
He was preceded in death by his parents, loving wife, and son James. Survived by two daughters Karen Wicker, and Janet Monson both of Salt Lake City UT, daughter-in-law Diane Smith and two grandsons Parker and Spencer Smith of Phoenix AZ.
Services will be Friday March 4, 2011 at 2:00 P.M. at St. Ambrose Parrish 1975 South 2300 East in Salt Lake City, UT. A viewing preceding at 1:00 to 2:00 P.M. Interment will be at Wasatch Lawn Cemetery, 3401 South Highland Drive, Salt Lake City, UT 84108. On-line condolences: www.wasatchlawn.com
