When I transferred to Brussels, Elder Morgan was my zone leader.  He was also a familiar face because I grew up in Holladay Stake, too.   Clay had very dry skin that winter.  I heard his birthday was coming up and bought him some Oil of Olay and wrapped in some homemade ZL wrapping paper.  I think it did the trick!  We laughed about some funky sunglasses being revelation glasses.  You put them on and voila, you know where all the missionaries should transfer that month.  We knew our President must have had his own pair.  This year after Christmas, I re-posted the recipe for Belgian waffles and Clay actually made them!  Good job!  Hope they were delicieux.  I keep thinking of Fran Drescher saying with her nasal New York accent, "He's the nicest guy!"  When I got home from my mission, I spoke in his home ward with a high counselor.  I loved telling them what an excellent missionary Clay was.  I have felt tremendous warmth and affection for him since our missionary days.  It has been a pleasure to associate with him and I know which kingdom to look in to find him in the next life, without a doubt.

I have so many fond memories of Clay, also known as Gladys. I have known him since my freshman year of high school, I am best friends with Jill. Gladys was the most self-less, loving, and gracious person. I spent many nights at the Morgan house and I remember one of those nights he was teaching me some French. The next morning he made me a brown paper lunch to take to school and he wrote "je t'aime" on it. I remember how special I felt that not only did he make me a lunch for school, but what he wrote. He would always tell me that I was his adopted 4th daughter and I was so proud to be. He also loved popcorn and when I worked at Battle Ground Cinema, anytime I would go to their house, I would bring him a large popcorn and he was always so happy. I will cherish these memories forever and I am so lucky to have had the honor of knowing him.

Clay,
We have known each other most of our lives. We made a tree house with a ZIP line in your backyard, road our little boy bikes to the university, survived three day at Trail Lake on our own, stayed alive even after being chased by angry motorists who didn’t like snowballs or plums. You are definitely a fighter. And my friend you won the real battle you stayed true to the end in the only battle that really counts. So many love you, I’m glad to be one of them.

I was ridiculously fortunate as to Mission companions. Every one was a great guy, even the ones who were not particularly motivated missionaries. One of the more motivated ones was a young man named Clay Morgan. We were companions while we were both very new to the field. The Mission President told us it was only a temporary emergency situation and we would be separated again in two weeks. Three months, many adventures and several such "promises" later Clay was finally rid of me.

Together we learned to recognize and point out the spirit during discussions with interested parties, keep new tellers from getting fired for hassling us at the bank, avoid having the apartment and church burned down, organize and maximize our work and free time, and lead the league in dinner appointments.

He was never down, even when he was. He was a FANTASTIC cook, the value of which you can't possibly grasp unless you have been on a mission, or maybe in the Army. He was ludicrously patient with me. He had a beautiful sense of humor and a gentle kindness that melted the most hardened of hearts. His strength got me through what could have otherwise been a tough time, and he was an example to me throughout the rest of my mission.

I recently found out that the has gone through and is going through a trial even rougher than spending several months of 24/7 contact with a humility-challenged guy like me; a battle with cancer and related ailments. I probably should have just said all of this in a private email to him rather than airing it in public on Facebook, but somehow that felt too small for his greatness. The world needs to know the power of his presence on this earth and how it has shaped lives for the better.

Clay, I love you. I thank you for just being you and for allowing me to be a part of your experience of this life. May however long that experience continues be filled with joy, love and wonder, even amid the anguish. Know that I, and all of us, are here.

Clay, my childhood friend. Thank you for befriending the shy, stuttering kid next door. I will always remember our sleep overs. Birthday parties,our school days. Scouts and our digging to China. In the sand box. Love.  You my friend!!!!  I have been honored to be your friend always!!

Clay has been a dear friend for 20 years. I always appreciated his gentle confidence and positive spirit.  He was always there to help or with an encouraging word.  I will miss our talks about everything from hiking to how we have been blessed, and his patience with my broken French.

We have loved the Morgan family for many years.  I always felt the gentle love Clay had for those around him.  I looked forward the the sweet, shy smile he always gave me when meeting me in the hall at church and the genuine greeting and hand shake.  Thank you for touching my life.  I will try my best to emulate the love and kindness you gave my life by reaching out the same way to others.  Love and hugs go to you Lisa and his precious girls.


We feel blessed to have been able to get to know Clay.  What a kind, humble, loving and compassionate man.  What a tough battle he fought!  We’re extra blessed that he raised our beautiful daughter-in-law, Jill.  We see all of his good qualities in her and we love her dearly.  We send our love and prayers to all of his family and friends.   

Clay was a great guy. I worked with him for several years at Sharp Microelectronics. He was straight forward in his dealings with people, very responsive and just a nice person to be around. I’m so sorry to hear he fought cancer and lost.  May he Rest In Peace. 

We have been neighbors with Clay and Lisa for fourteen years, I will miss The talks that Clay and I would have, Clay had a positive attitude all through his cancer journey.  We couldn’t ask for better neighbors .

When I served as bishop of the Holladay 2nd Ward it was always a pleasure to visit with Dee and Clay.  I was impressed with the way he took care of his father's needs even as he was struggling with his challenges with cancer.  He was a good example to the ward with his positive attitude and his example of kindness to his father.


 Elder Morgan was a wonderful friend and mission companion. I was grateful for his friendship and was honored to be in the Temple when he was married. I wish we had been able to cross paths more often these 37 years. Elder Morgan your mission continues on the other side of the veil. I know many will accept because of your kind, beautiful way you teach the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

I always loved chatting with soft-spoken, always slightly smiling Uncle Clay at Gram & Gramps' Morgan family gatherings in Holiday, trips to St. George and Hawaii with the Gram & Gramps bunch, visiting him and Lisa when they lived in Southern California and the Northwest, and more recently when he joined us on Utah Football trips.

During my 1 on 1 time with Uncle Clay, he always had a genuine interest in my life's happenings, how my wife Shannon was doing, how my twin boys William and Thomas were doing - especially since one of his grandkids he openly adored, Caleb, is their same age.  Uncle Clay was among the group of us during one of my all-time favorite vacation experiences: kayaking and snorkeling excursion in Maui, Hawaii, 2001.

The included photo with my Morgan uncles and Gramps was taken on our wedding day in 2005.  The photo is fitting given the genuine interest and support I always felt from Uncle Clay as mentioned.  I will miss our chats and always remember the adventures we shared.  To echo my brother Bryce, I too want to be just like Uncle Clay.  Love, Nephew Tyler.

We thoroughly enjoyed observing the close relationship between Clay and his dad, our Uncle De.  We love the "Man Cave" Clay created at Uncle De's house for the two of them.  They were such a dynamic father-and-son duo whenever they were together at Clay's home in Washington, in their Man Cave at Uncle De's home in SLC or in their treasured red-rock country, St. George.  Clay seemed to be born kind and Christlike.  His strong faith in Jesus Christ and his obedience to Gospel teachings were quietly manifest in his stellar character, his gentle demeanor and his kindness to all.  Ken and Erin will miss you, Clay!

I remember when Clay was born and I remember him in my nearly daily interactions with the Morgan family on Willow Road. He always had  a sweet and loving demeanor and  was genuinely kind and 'nice'. His voice was calm as well. My love and hugs and best of everything to his siblings and father and his wife and family. He was a good man! So very sorry for this loss-may you feel the love of Our Heavenly Father and Savior at this time.  Love to you all Jan Mulvay  and Rick Strong and all the Mulvay family. 

I love and miss Uncle Clay.  I always wanted to be like Clay.  When I was young and he "rescued" me in Disneyland, I wanted to watch out for and help other people, like Clay.  In high school, I wanted to be a runner, like Clay.  I wanted to be a passionate "Utah man", like Clay.  I wanted to appreciate the beauties of the earth, like Clay.  Now, I want to continue to try and be a loving, caring, kind, and proud, son, brother, uncle, husband, and father, just like Uncle Clay.

Clay was a hero to me!  He adored his three daughters and their spouses and his three grandsons.  He researched tirelessly medical treatments to help prolong his life so he could be there for them.  He had faith in the medical profession but greater faith in his Father in Heaven and the Gospel of Jesus Christ.  He was a dedicated member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Clay was a person who valued family and friends and his religion above all.  He was always concerned and mindful of his parents, his spouse, his children and grandchildren, his brothers and sisters, nieces and nephews, aunts and uncles, cousins and grandparents INDIVIDUALLY and went the extra mile to make sure they knew it!!

I’m saddened to hear of Clay’s passing. Growing up across the street from him, I looked up to him. He was a great example to me. I mostly hung out with his brother, Eric, but I considered him to be a great friend

I was so sad to hear about Clay. He was an incredible man.  A kind and thoughtful friend.  I am so glad to know that we will be able to see him again.   My thoughts and prayers are with Lisa, his girls, father and family.

To Lisa, the girls and the entire Morgan family,
I'm so sorry for your loss. Clay will keep on living in all of you and in all his friends. You'll see it in his grandchildren. I'm so glad in recent years to steal him away from you for short trips to Capitol Reef, southern Utah, and hikes in the Wasatch mountains. I have the privilege to call him my friend for 50 years. We had so many good times together and got in trouble together a few times too. Family and friendship meant so much to Clay (aka Dirt). I've included a photo of Clay on a hike outside Capitol Reef (10/20/2017) with two of his friends of 50 years, Barry Scholl and myself.
