Elda Sinopoli was the youngest of the four children born to Ralph and Mary Sinopoli on October 12, 1932, in Brooklyn, New York. She is survived by her sister, Dina Galati and many nieces and nephews.
Her loving uncles, Tulio, Sam and Louis Scerbo, assisted their sister Mary when Ralph passed away when Elda was a young girl. She did not lack love and comfort as she was surrounded by full family support.
Upon Mary’s remarriage to Tom Mauri, Elda gained new siblings, Mary, Frank, Gloria, and Bob. Together the eight children filled the household with joy, laughter, and hope in overcoming the challenges of the great depression.
Her predeceased siblings are brother Frank and sister Lola, Frank and Bob Mauri and her stepsisters Mary and Gloria. In Elda’s view they were all family. Last week she called Bob Mauri a brother from another mother!
Anyone who knew her was impressed with her warmth and gentle way. Her deep faith in God was her guiding light. She made friends wherever life brought her. From her job at the Christian Fellowship Home, to her retirement home community in Estero, Florida, to her more recent stay at the Mills Pond Nursing center, everyone enjoyed her tenacity, her fierce independent spirit, and her ability to adapt to any circumstance.
I had the privilege to guide her through her final years. I knew her in her younger years and through her final ordeals. She was a great example of a person who took on life’s challenges and never complained or felt sorry for her circumstances. Her strength of character is an inspiration to us all.

Our Aunt Elda,
My sister and I, then six and eight years old respectively, would visit our Grandma Sinopoli in Graves End Brooklyn… So protective she was over you.. the beautiful woman that she was.
We would see you, and despite all the tragedy that surrounded you, would sometimes give us a smile however difficult it was ….and that smile was warm as inconceivable as it was..
As you progressed seemingly against great odds, you even gave us gifts, the significance of which I would come to realize only now as of this writing….And only now I realize how inspirational it could be..once again, only now as of this writing….
Upon the passing of her mother our beloved Grandmother, due to circumstance Elda took up residence in a Syosset home for assisted living and actually became an employee there caring for the residents. This was truly miraculous; a testament to her mettle; I suspect she had a bit of a very industrious Uncle of ours in her….
My parents would take my sister and I to visit her; we’re talking 1967 …I loved going there because on the way was Lafayette Electronics; they sold CB’s, walkie talkies, stereos and even the antennas…my passion at the time; and this time. They’re still there to this day selling the same believe it or not, some 57 years later…… At least one of us grew up... I’m not going to have you guess either..
Finally at peace we leave you.
As you did then, smile down upon us now…
Goodbyes are none…departures in moments only ….
Until we meet again dearest Aunt Elda; I’m sure you will be young and vibrant ….that’s how we want to see you…forever young and vibrant…..none more deserved…
Love Ralphie Sinopoli and Marie Sinopoli Miller………..
