John Robert Holz, age 81, passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 19, 2024, in Jacksonville, Florida. He was a devoted father and friend, leaving behind a legacy of love, laughter, and cherished memories.
John took immense pride in his community and the natural beauty of his surroundings. His passion for landscaping and gardening was evident in the lush, vibrant gardens he meticulously tended to throughout his life. His green thumb not only beautified his own home but brought joy to all who passed by. Beyond his love for gardening, John had a zest for life that led him to embrace the great outdoors. He found solace and joy in nature's embrace cruising the water with his late best friend Father Andy, but nothing meant more to him than the time he spent traveling the world with the love of his life Barbara.
He is survived by his longtime companion Barbara Dethlefsen and her children Albie, Mike and Cindy (Michael Carr); beloved father to John, Timothy (Pamela), and Heather Holz (Dan Malak); loving grandfather to Timothy and Jake; beloved brother to Betty Crofton (Late Jim) and the late Ronald Holz. Cherished uncle to Ronnie Holz, Marie Holz, Anthony Hartman, Donnie Dondero and the late Christine Hartman as well as many other nieces and nephews.
John's commitment to service extended beyond his love for the land and sea; he served his country with honor and distinction as a Vietnam Army Veteran. His bravery and sacrifice will forever be remembered and revered by those whose lives he touched.
Friends and family are invited to pay their respects during visitation hours on Monday, June 3, 2024, from 2:00-4:00 PM and 6:00-8:00 PM at O.B. Davis Funeral Homes, 1001 Route 25A, Miller Place, NY 11764. A closing prayer will be held on Tuesday, June 4, 2024, at 10:30 AM, followed by Military Honors and Interment at 11:30 AM at Calverton National Cemetery, where John will be laid to rest among his fellow servicemen and women.
John Robert Holz will be deeply missed by all who knew him, but his spirit will live on in the beauty of the gardens he tended, the memories he created, and the love he shared. May he rest in eternal peace.
