

Paul R. “Coach K” Koretzki, age 84, passed away peacefully on September 14th, 2024. He is now reunited with his beloved wife, Mary Joan, with whom he shared 56 wonderful years of marriage. Together, they built a legacy of love and family. Paul leaves behind his devoted children, Krista and Kevin, along with their spouses, Russ and Lauren. He was a cherished grandfather to Hunter, Andrew, Cole, Rachel, and Ryan.
Paul’s life was defined by his deep passion for teaching, coaching, and mentoring. His career as an educator began at Brentwood High School, where he taught mathematics for over 30 years, influencing countless students both in the classroom and beyond. He continued to share his knowledge through tutoring and teaching at Suffolk Community College. His ongoing support of his school community continued throughout his career and he spent many years as the Coordinator for the Shoreham-Wading River Community Recreation Program.
A legendary coach, Paul’s career spanned nearly six decades. His high school coaching career began with Brentwood's boys soccer where he spent 15 years and helped found the Brentwood Soccer Club. In 1980, he found his true calling when he took the helm of the Shoreham-Wading River girls track and cross country programs. For 44 years, he nurtured and developed a winning tradition that became a hallmark of his coaching philosophy. Known for his dedication to player and team development, Paul’s guidance left an indelible mark on generations of athletes. Paul was named Suffolk County Track and Field "Coach of the Year" more than 135 times. His legacy was cemented in 2020 when he was inducted into the Suffolk Sports Hall of Fame, an honor befitting his lifetime of achievements.
Paul was an avid fan of the New York Mets, Giants, Islanders and Knicks and he brought the same enthusiasm to his hobbies as he did to his career.
For those fortunate enough to know him, Paul will be remembered for his unmatched passion, his dedication to teaching and coaching, and his unwavering love for his family and community. His impact will continue to inspire and guide those whose lives he touched.
Paul's family will be making a contribution to the Shoreham-Wading River Community Programs Department in his honor.
