DeWayne R. Rettig of Millvale, PA, passed away peacefully on July 15th, 2020, his 62nd birthday, surrounded by family at UPMC Presbyterian Hospital after bravely battling multiple illnesses. He was born on July 15th, 1958 in Frankfurt, Germany to Helga H. and the late Donald L. Rettig of Shaler, PA. Upon graduation from Shaler Area High School in 1976, DeWayne served as an aircraft mechanic in the US Air Force, where he was honorably discharged. An avid hunter and fisherman, DeWayne also enjoyed golf, cooking, painting and spending time with family and friends. He especially enjoyed time spent with the light of his life, his grandson, Karl H. - aka “Little Buck” and his companion dog, Moe. Preceded in death by his beloved grandparents, Gertrud H. and Karl H. Merkel of Millvale, PA and Marie and Lester Rettig of Burlington, Iowa and his father, he is survived by his mother; his wife of 36 years, Mary E. Burns-Rettig; his two children, Nichole H. of Millvale, PA and Karl D. (Sylver) Rettig of Titusville, PA; his grandson, Karl, also of Titusville; his brother David L. (Heidi) Rettig of Harmony, PA; his sister Denise C. (Mark) Glevicky of Millvale and many nieces and nephews. Funeral visitation will be held from 9 am-12 pm on Sunday, July 19th, 2020 at Healy-Hahn Funeral Home Inc., 512 Grant Avenue, Millvale PA 15209. Following visitation, a funeral service will be held at 1:30 pm at Keystone Church, 10020 Pendleton Way, Cranberry Township PA 16066. In lieu of flowers please consider a memorial donation in loving memory of DeWayne R. Rettig to the Ankylosing Spondylitis Association and the American Cancer Society.
