Richard Prealle Jacks was born on July 3, 1950 in Leavenworth, Kansas to Lt. Colonel Frederick Wilson Jacks, Jr. and Ghislaine Renard. He was reunited with his parents on August 28, 2023 after passing away peacefully in his home.
Richard spent most of his childhood in northern Virginia and graduated from the University of Richmond. He earned his MBA from Northwestern University in 1973. After graduating, he accepted a job with IBM until his passion for entrepreneurship led him to start his own company. His very successful software company went public in the 1990s. His greatest loves were his family and dogs, backpacking, music, and football.
Richard is survived by his wife, Emily, three children from a previous marriage to Julie Jacks, Brett, Lindsay, and Whitney, three stepchildren, Sabrina, Jennifer, and Alex, and six grandchildren James, Raki, Luke, Madeleine, Connor, and Molly.
Richard’s warmth, kindness, generosity, sense of humor, and fun-loving spirit will continue to serve as a guide and inspiration for anyone fortunate enough to have known him.
